Portugal won their first game of EURO 2024 as they defeated the Czech Republic 2-1 at the Leipzig Stadium. Ronaldo couldn't score in the match, but he did get chances to score in the match. Portugal came from behind with an own goal and a late winner from Francisco Conceicao in the 92nd minute. Despite not scoring, Conor McGregor made a huge bet on the Portuguese striker to do very well in EURO 2024 as he proudly showcased that he is putting down $60k on CR7 to be the Golden Boot winner of the tournament, like how he did it in EURO 2020. The former UFC champion wrote on X, "60 G’s on Cristiano [Ronaldo] to retain his Euro Golden Boot. Siuuu!" It is a risky bet, but he could be rewarded highly if Ronaldo wins the Golden Boot of the Euros, as he could win $900k. The odds are not as high as they would be a couple of years ago, but the belief is still that Ronaldo showcased that he was close to scoring for Portugal.
Portugal's 2-1 win put them second in Group F of EURO 2024, as they have three points with a plus-one goal difference. Turkey is first in the group after their 3-1 win against Georgia, which puts them on three points with a plus-two goal difference. Things were not looking good for Portugal as the first half was 0-0 despite the Portuguese side having many chances on goal.
In the 62nd minute, the Czech Republic took the lead after their first shot on target went in. Lukas Provod scored from outside the box to give Czechia the lead. Portugal got the equalizer in the 69th minute as a cross in the box led to Robin Hranac's own goal. In the 92nd minute, a cross in the box by Pedro Neto led to Conceicao to push the ball into the net and past the keeper.
Ronaldo and Portugal had a tough game against the Czech Republic, but now they will face a bigger challenge as they play Turkey next. Turkey is the leader of Group F, and the two sides will face each other on June 22nd, which is on Saturday, at the Borussia Dortmund Stadium.
