Tottenham's Rodrigo Bentancur has given a positive update on his health after a concerning incident in which he collapsed during the first half of Spurs' Carabao Cup semi-final against Liverpool. The midfielder fell to the ground without any contact while chasing the ball at a corner, prompting immediate medical attention. Bentancur was stretchered off the pitch and taken to the hospital for further care.
Despite the worrying scene, Spurs reported at halftime that Bentancur was conscious and talking. The Uruguayan later reassured fans through an Instagram story, saying, “All good, guys! Thank you for the messages. Congratulations for the victory, boys!!!” His message brought relief to supporters after the troubling incident.
Tottenham emerged victorious with a 1-0 win, courtesy of a late goal by Lucas Bergvall. However, Liverpool were upset that Bergvall wasn't sent off for a challenge on Kostas Tsimikas that many believed should have warranted a second yellow card. At the time of Bergvall's goal, Tsimikas was still receiving treatment off the pitch, adding to the frustration for Liverpool.
Despite the emotional rollercoaster caused by Bentancur's collapse, Spurs manager Ange Postecoglou expressed pride in his team's performance. “Yeah, very proud,” Postecoglou said. “We had to deal with some adversity tonight. We started the game really well, then obviously we lose Rodrigo, and in the way it happened, it was quite distressing. We had to compose ourselves, reorganize, and the players did a fantastic job.”
