Real Madrid's recent elimination in the Champions League quarterfinals, following a 2-1 loss to Arsenal at the Santiago Bernabeu, has left both sporting and institutional scars. However, beyond the disappointment of being knocked out, one detail caught the attention of international media: Diego Fernandes, an entrepreneur close to the Brazilian Football Confederation (CBF), was present at the stadium.
According to several European outlets, Fernandes attended the match as an informal emissary of the CBF, at a moment when Carlo Ancelotti's name is once again being seriously considered as Brazil’s new head coach. His presence at the Bernabeu did not go unnoticed, and many interpret it as the start of an initial approach by the CBF, signaling their continued interest in the Italian manager despite his current commitment to Real Madrid.
It’s worth noting that the CBF recently dismissed Dorival Junior after a painful loss to Argentina, leaving the Brazil national team bench vacant. Since then, Ancelotti's name has resurfaced strongly, echoing the rumors from a few months ago when his appointment had been speculated before Flamengo's former coach took over.
Although Ancelotti is under contract with Real Madrid until mid-2026, his future is increasingly uncertain. The Champions League elimination left the team without one of their major goals for the season, and while the Copa del Rey final against Barcelona remains, there’s a growing sense within the club that his tenure is coming to an end.
Moreover, information from Sky Sports has only strengthened these rumors: according to the British outlet, Ancelotti is expected to leave after the Copa del Rey final, paving the way for a potential agreement with Brazil. If this comes to pass, it would be a stunning move: a historic European coach taking the helm of the most successful national team in World Cup history.
While there is no official confirmation yet, the behind-the-scenes actions of the CBF are becoming increasingly visible. And when the federation moves, it’s rarely without a clear purpose.
April 26 could mark the end of Carlo Ancelotti’s second stint at Real Madrid, with the Brazil national team waiting to hand the reins to the historic Italian coach.
