Real Madrid's plans to bolster their left-back position are facing unexpected complications, with the anticipated move for Álvaro Carreras reportedly hitting a snag. According to reports from Pacojo and Antón Meana on Cadena SER, the club is now actively exploring other avenues to find a reliable partner for Fran García on the Bernabéu's left flank, particularly with an eye on reinforcements after the Club World Cup.
"New developments are emerging in Real Madrid's left-back market," stated Pacojo and Antón Meana. "We've been reporting that the Carreras operation is getting complicated, and Alejandro Grimaldo is once again an option. The situation with Álvaro remains stalled, and his camp isn't providing updates. In Portugal, there's talk of ongoing financial discrepancies between Madrid and Benfica."
While Carreras, currently under Xabi Alonso at Leverkusen, reportedly dreams of wearing the white jersey, a deal remains elusive. This has opened the door for Grimaldo, who has never hidden his desire to play for Real Madrid. Although his preference is clear, sources indicate he's keen to leave the Bundesliga, with "not very strong, but existing" offers from the Premier League also on the table. Grimaldo would reportedly have no issues playing for Real Madrid, Barcelona, or Atlético Madrid.
"If the Carreras deal falls through, Grimaldo is confident Alonso will give him a call," Meana concluded. The situation is further complicated by the lack of offers for current left-back Ferland Mendy. It's understood that Fran García is viewed by the club as a backup option, not the primary starter for the current season. This leaves a crucial void at left-back, prompting Real Madrid's urgent search.
The ongoing saga is made even more intricate by concerns surrounding Ferland Mendy's fitness. The club is well aware of his history with chronic injuries, which could pose a significant hurdle for him to pass medical examinations at potential new destinations. Real Madrid is actively assessing his future as they plan for further significant signings post-Club World Cup, aiming to build a squad robust enough to compete on all fronts.
