The International Federation of Football History and Statistics (IFFHS) has declared Real Madrid the best football club in the world for 2024. This accolade follows an extraordinary year marked by victories in the UEFA Champions League, LaLiga EA Sports, the Intercontinental Cup, and the UEFA and Spanish Super Cups. Real Madrid dominated the IFFHS rankings for seven consecutive months, securing the title with an impressive 441 points.

The runner-up, Bayer Leverkusen, led by Xabi Alonso, trailed with 384 points, followed closely by Atalanta with 380. Spanish rivals Barcelona and Atlético de Madrid also made the top ten, placing seventh and ninth, respectively, underscoring the dominance of LaLiga teams on the global stage.

A Year of Record-Breaking Success

Real Madrid’s recognition by the IFFHS marks the fifth time the club has earned this honor, previously awarded in 2000, 2002, 2014, and 2017. The 2024 season was historic, as the team equaled its highest-ever annual title count, a feat achieved only five years ago.

The journey began with a commanding victory over Barcelona in the Spanish Super Cup final, followed by a dominant LaLiga campaign. In Europe, Real Madrid triumphed over Borussia Dortmund to claim the Champions League title, before securing the UEFA Super Cup against Atalanta and defeating Pachuca to lift the Intercontinental Cup.

Global Recognition and Rivalry

This accolade cements Real Madrid's legacy as a football powerhouse. The club's consistency at the top of the IFFHS rankings reflects its dominance not just in Spain but across Europe and beyond. Meanwhile, the strong performances of Bayer Leverkusen and Atalanta highlight the increasing competitiveness of European football.

Barcelona and Atlético de Madrid also showcased their strength, with both clubs achieving top-ten placements, a testament to LaLiga’s overall quality in 2024.
