Neymar confirmed on Friday that his contract with Santos is initially set for six months, with the possibility of an extension. However, the forward emphasized that it is still "too early" to discuss prolonging his stay at the club where he first rose to international stardom. At nearly 33 years old, Neymar returns to Brazil seeking a fresh chapter in his career.

"It's a six-month contract that can be extended. It depends on me giving 100%. There's no point in coming back just for my name. I returned to play, to be happy, to score goals, and to help Santos," Neymar stated during a press conference at Vila Belmiro stadium. Presented before thousands of fans, he made it clear that his return is not a symbolic gesture but a competitive decision.

"I Didn't Come Here to Relax"

The former PSG and Barcelona star dismissed any notion that his move back to Santos was merely for comfort or nostalgia. Speaking before dozens of journalists, Neymar insisted he is committed to performing at a high level.

"I didn’t come here to take it easy or sit on the couch at home. I came in search of the happiness of playing football and to help Santos," he declared.

Neymar also revealed that his return required sacrifices, stating that he gave up "many things" to make the move happen. He expressed gratitude to Santos for welcoming him back, calling their renewed partnership a "perfect marriage."

Aiming for the 2026 World Cup

While the length of his stay at Santos remains uncertain, Neymar admitted that even two weeks ago, he did not anticipate continuing his career in Brazil. Now, however, he hopes his return will help him regain fitness and secure a spot in the Brazilian national team for the 2026 World Cup, which he believes will be his last.

"I still have something to accomplish, a mission that I think will be my last, and I will pursue it in every way possible. I have goals," he said, reaffirming his competitive mindset.
