Brazilian forward Neymar Jr. is dedicating himself to recovering from a serious anterior cruciate ligament injury sustained in October 2023. The setback sidelined the 32-year-old for over a year, preventing him from showcasing his full potential with Saudi club Al Hilal, where he is under contract until July 2025.
Neymar's ultimate goal is to be part of the Brazilian squad for the 2026 FIFA World Cup in Mexico, the United States, and Canada. This tournament could mark his final appearance in football's most prestigious competition. Having fallen short in previous World Cups—semifinals in 2014, and quarterfinal exits in 2018 and 2022—Neymar remains determined to seize the opportunity to lift the coveted trophy.
“The World Cup is every player’s dream. I’ve already played in three World Cups, but I want to be in a fourth. I have to focus on that, prepare myself well here, and aim for that mid-term goal after regaining my form with my club,” Neymar shared in a recent interview.
His recovery has been challenging, but Neymar is committed to returning to peak performance. He hopes to make a significant impact at Al Hilal, with a particular focus on the 2025 FIFA Club World Cup, a tournament of great importance to his team.
“I want to have a great season with Al Hilal. Coming back from such a serious injury isn’t easy. I still have time to get back to my best and show why I’m here. My priority is to recover fully, improve physically, and return to playing. Playing in the Club World Cup with Al Hilal in 2025 is a big goal for me because it’s very important for the club,” Neymar explained.
As he works toward regaining his physical and mental strength, Neymar remains steadfast in his ambition to play in the 2026 World Cup, potentially the grand finale of his illustrious career.
