Neymar Jr. and Lionel Messi left Paris Saint Germain in the summer of 2023. Neymar left for Saudi club Al Hilal, and Messi left to play in the MLS with Inter Miami. The pair played excellent football for the Paris club, but poor performances in the Champions League left them with heavy criticism.

When Messi arrived in the summer of 2021, PSG was able to advance past the group stage and make the Round of 16. In the Round of 16, PSG faced Real Madrid and would lose humiliatingly. PSG would win the first leg 1-0 at home but then lose 3-1 in a crazy comeback by the Madrid squad.

In the 22/23 Champions League season, PSG would also advance past the group stage but would end in second place, in a group they were arguably favorites to top. The group included Juventus, Benfica, and Maccabi Haifa. They would play Bayern Munich in the round of 16, and it wouldn't go well for them again. PSG lost both games, and the aggregate score was 3-0.

Both players were on fire for their performances, and the PSG fans were angry that neither would pose any threat in the important games. The treatment affected the mannerisms of both players, and it was noticeable during games at times.

What does Neymar describe his time at PSG, and what did Messi think of it?

In a recent interview, Neymar described his time at PSG as hell. He said it was not only for his time at PSG but also for his friend Messi. The Brazilian even mentioned both players missing their old club together! "Messi and I faced hell in Paris. We missed Barcelona."

It was clear their best and favorite brand of football was their time at FC Barcelona, but to now confirm their feelings leaves some fans annoyed at the decision to join PSG in the first place. After just two years, Messi quickly left the Paris side, and Neymar delayed his desired exit for six years! FC Barcelona fans can only imagine how everything would be right now if Neymar and Messi stayed together at the Catalan club for years after 2017.
