Real Madrid are going through a difficult spell, and as if their Champions League exit at the hands of Arsenal was not enough, there is now growing uncertainty surrounding the fitness of Kylian Mbappe. The French forward, who has been one of the club’s standout performers this season, picked up an ankle sprain during the second leg at the Santiago Bernabeu.
The diagnosis has raised concerns in the Spanish capital, especially with the Copa del Rey final fast approaching on Saturday, 26 April. While the club have yet to officially rule him out, there is a sense of unease around Valdebebas. Mbappe has already begun his recovery process, but his participation in the final remains in serious doubt.
To make matters worse, the striker was already set to miss the upcoming league clash against Athletic Bilbao due to suspension. He received a red card last weekend following a reckless challenge on Antonio Blanco during the match against Alaves. He will also be unavailable for the midweek fixture against Getafe. Within the club, all hopes are pinned on having him fit in time for the all-important El Clasico against Barcelona.
All eyes are now on Mbappe’s recovery. The medical staff are working hard to speed up the healing process without putting the player at further risk. In the meantime, Ancelotti is already considering alternatives should the French star be unavailable for one of the most decisive matches left on the calendar.
