For years the Bundesliga has been dominated by Bayern Munich. They have won the last eleven titles in a row since 2013 and while other clubs like Borussia Dortmund and RB Leipzig have tried to compete with them, they have not been able to steal the top spot. But this year things seem to have changed: with more than half the season played, Bayer Leverkusen lead the standings by five points over the Bavarian side.

Obviously much of the credit goes to players such as Florian Wirtz, Alejandro Grimaldo, Granit Xhaka and Exequiel Palacios, who have shown all their talent on the field. But the coach is also very important. Xabi Alonso is just starting his professional career as a manager and in a short time he has managed to give his team a style of his own that the fans like and that, in addition, allows him to achieve good results.

The virtues of the former Spanish midfielder have attracted the attention of several important clubs in Europe. According to reports, Florentino Perez considered him as plan B in case Carlo Ancelotti did not agree to renew his contract at Real Madrid, while he is also mentioned as the main favorite to replace Jurgen Klopp at Liverpool. Xabi Alonso played for both clubs and that is an extra factor to consider him as an option.

But he also excelled at another club: Bayern Munich. He played there between 2014 and 2017, with 117 appearances and 5 titles. That past, added to his successful present with Bayer Leverkusen, made him one of the managers targeted for the near future of the Bavarian side.

What will happen with Tuchel?

Things are not going well for Bayern Munich this season. They lost the German Super Cup to RB Leipzig, were eliminated by Saarbrucken in the German Cup and are second in the Bundesliga standings. Therefore, according to The Times, if things don't improve soon the chiefs could sack Thomas Tuchel and, in that case, Xabi Alonso could be the one chosen to replace him next season.
