Zlatan Ibrahimovic, once one of Europe’s most formidable footballers, retired from professional soccer in July 2022. Currently working as a consultant in Milan, the Swedish icon is reportedly close to making a return to the sports world—this time in a surprising arena. Rather than lacing up his cleats, Ibrahimovic has expressed a serious interest in pursuing a career in boxing, a sport he has long admired.

According to European media, Ibrahimovic is currently negotiating his debut in the celebrity boxing scene, a platform that has seen rising popularity in recent years. Talks have been ongoing with Mams Taylor, head of Misfits Boxing, the organization behind many prominent celebrity matches. Taylor revealed, “I’ve tried to convince Zlatan; he’s a natural fit for boxing. He’s watched many Misfits fights, and I know he follows us. He used to be a kickboxer and was quite skilled.”

A Familiar World of Combat for Zlatan

Ibrahimovic’s venture into boxing wouldn’t be his first experience in martial arts. Before his football career took off, he trained in taekwondo, earning a black belt at just 17 years old at the Enighet Taekwondo Club in his hometown of Malmö, Sweden. His background in taekwondo and experience as a former kickboxer could serve as valuable assets should he enter the boxing ring.
