On Sunday, January 12, Alianza Lima showcased its roster for the upcoming season at the Tarde Blanquiazul 2025 event at the Matute stadium. The team, led by coach Néstor Gorosito, played a friendly match against Ecuador's Emelec, winning 2-0 with goals from Ricardo Lagos and Erick Castillo. With this victory, the club is now preparing for their upcoming tour of Argentina, where they will play more friendlies. Gonzalo Aguirre, a 21-year-old midfielder, was one of the players who came on in the second half of the game.
After the match, Aguirre spoke to the media and was asked about Universitario’s upcoming friendly against Inter Miami, which will feature Lionel Messi, Luis Suárez, Sergio Busquets, and Jordi Alba. While Aguirre acknowledged Messi as the greatest footballer of all time and expressed his excitement about facing him, he emphasized that Alianza Lima is focused solely on its own preparation.
“It's always beautiful to play against the greatest of all time, but we are focused on our own goals. What other teams do doesn’t really matter to us. We have a tour in Argentina that will last about a week, and it will be important to refine our details and be ready for the tournament,” Aguirre stated.
Universitario will face Inter Miami at the Monumental Stadium on Wednesday, January 29. Meanwhile, Alianza Lima is set to travel to Argentina for a series of friendlies, continuing their preparations for the season ahead.
Aguirre also expressed his satisfaction with Alianza Lima's performance in their presentation match. He mentioned how the fans' reception was overwhelming and shared insights into what coach Gorosito demands from the team.
“I’m happy with the first game of the year and thankful for the opportunity. The fans’ welcome was beautiful, something that’s normal at this club. I’m happy with today’s presentation. The coach asks us to play simply, enjoy ourselves on the field, and stay focused. What’s required is intensity and commitment,” Aguirre added.
