Barcelona goalkeeper Wojciech Szczesny has taken full responsibility for his costly errors in his side's 5-4 Champions League defeat to Benfica. The Polish international was at fault for two of Benfica's goals, much to the frustration of Barcelona fans.

In a post-match interview, Szczesny admitted that his first-half performance was far from his best. "I was frustrated with my first half," he said. "I made a mistake for the first goal, it was a misunderstanding with Balde. I shouted but he didn't hear me. It was a bit comical, but luckily we won the game."

The Polish keeper also acknowledged his penalty conceded for the third Benfica goal. "In the third goal, on the pitch, I thought there was no contact, but after seeing the replay, I realized it was a penalty. I admit my mistake."

Szczesny also revealed that he is still adapting to Barcelona's high-pressing style under manager Hansi Flick. "I've never played with such a high defensive line. Wenger demanded a lot from the goalkeeper, but here the players are very far from me. Even at 34, you can still learn. It's a great experience."

The goalkeeper also expressed his surprise at being named in the starting lineup ahead of Iñaki Peña. "I didn't expect to play yesterday, but my goal is to help the team, whether it's on the pitch or on the bench."

Szczesny concluded by discussing his crucial save to deny Angel Di Maria in the dying minutes of the game. "The save against Di Maria wasn't redemption. I was frustrated and it was my way of helping when we were looking for the win. We could have accepted a 4-4 draw, but we wanted the victory. That's the Barcelona culture."

Szczesny's performance has sparked debate among Barcelona fans and pundits alike. While some have called for him to be dropped, others have defended him, pointing out that the team ultimately won the match.
