Real Madrid lost 3-1  against Atletico Madrid in the Classic Metropolitan Derby, losing its undefeated streak but yet they are still in the third place of the standings. This defeat showed Carlo Ancelotti’s weakness in his tactics and put him in the executive’s spotlight, as they believe the Italian manager won’t be the answer for Real Madrid in 2024.

Just yesterday, it was confirmed that the executives back in Valdebebas have found Ancelotti’s replacement, and they think the perfect fit for the role would be former Real Madrid player, Xabi Alonso. Nevertheless, the news hasn’t been confirmed yet, as neither of both parties have come out yet, however, Ancelotti and the team have already heard the rumors.

Today, in a pregame press conference before they head to play against UD Las Palmas, Ancelotti was asked about the potential arriving of Xabi Alonso in 2024 and his response was other than expected, “I think that one day, for Raúl [González], for [Álvaro] Arbeloa, for Xabi Alonso, their greatest wish is to coach Real Madrid and I want that for them because I know them all, I love them all. I hope that one day they can be coaches of Real Madrid.”

Xabi Alonso (41), who is the actual Bayer Leverkusen head coach, used to play for Real Madrid under Ancelotti’s command. The Italian manager even praised Alonso’s great capacity and knowledge on football tactics that can match with Real Madrid players, just as it did with Leverkusen.

Ancelotti’s criticized tactics

Real Madrid had a terrible performance against Atletico, and Ancelotti was very criticized due to the formation he put on the field (a diamond attack), a tactic that didn't gone well, as Atletico managed to put three hat-trick goals using Real Madrid’s lack of defensive players.

[Criticism] is part of a coach's job," Ancelotti said. "When you are Real Madrid’s coach it is normal to be criticized when things are not going well... I have to evaluate, in a self-critical way, what we have done, what we are doing well, which is a lot, and what we didn't do well against Atlético de Madrid.”

"I have to evaluate things with balance," he said. "Fortunately that's in my genes, I'm a balanced person. It is not so difficult. It's not about doubting everything. The team had won six games out of six, with all the [injury] problems we have had.”, ended Calo Ancelotti when he got asked about his failed tactics on Atletico Madrid.
