Throughout the week, two severe cases of racism invaded the Spanish and Italian football; one being a racist attack by Altetico Madrid ultras towards a mother and her daughters who were wearing a Vinicius Jr jersey; and the second one involved Calcio Napoli and his top striker, Victor Osimhen, who was the protagonist of two controversial and racist Tik Tok videos made by his own team.

As we informed in El Futbolero, Robert Candela -Osimhen’s manager- immediately showed his client uncomfort for these videos posted on Napoli’s main Tik Tok account and then deleted instantly after they were uploaded. It was said that the young Nigerian striker would take legal actions towards the administrator of the social media accounts.

Nevertheless, all these allegations were told by Robert Candela, and never by Osimhen himself. One of the main reasons Osimhen probably didn’t say anything at the time was because these videos were uploaded a day before Napoli had a matchup against Udinese, where they successfully won 4-0 with a goal scored by Osimhen.

Now, the Napoli striker has published a statement regarding this controversial topic, and it was reposted by Italian insider, Fabrizio Romano, on his X account and this is what Osimhen had to say, “The accusations against People of Naples are untrue. I have a lot of friends that are Napolitans and have become part of my family and everyday life. I appreciate Nigerians and everyone for leading their voices to support and reach out to me.”.

What did Calcio Napoli said about it?

Social media, in particular TikTok, has always used an expressive form of language with a light heart and creativity, without wanting to, as in the case with Osimhen as protagonist, have any intention of insult or derision”, and finished “In any case, if Victor perceived any offense towards him, this was not what the club intended.”, said the team in a statement published on their social media accounts.

Nevertheless, Many X users have already commented on the post and they detected that Napoli didn’t even say they were sorry. @utdrobbo: “There is a seismic difference between "sorry for what we did" and "sorry you were offended by what we did." @CarefreeJonty: “Could have also said sorry but instead they’ve got all defensive. Embarrassing”.

What do you think of this statement given by Napoli?
