The conflict between Israel and Palestine has continued to generate tragic news for a week. Last weekend's Hamas attack on Israel has caused hundreds of deaths. In the midst of this disaster, the name of the nephew of a former Spanish soccer league player stands out. This is Shaked, nephew of former footballer Yossi Benayoun.

He was born in Domina, Israel. He made his professional debut in 1997 as a midfielder for Hapoel Be'er Sheva in Israel. He soon earned the nickname the Israeli diamond for his great skill on the field of play. The year after his debut in the top category, he played with his country's team against Mexico. Later, Yossi Benayoun would become its captain and the leader of the national team. In his country, he is seen as the best footballer, although he only played at the beginning and end of his career in Israel, since from 2002 to 2014 he played in European football.

In the summer of 2002, the midfielder received an offer from Racing Santander, when he was playing for Maccabi Haifa. After three seasons standing out in the Spanish league, he caught the attention of other teams such as Benítez's Valencia or even FC Barcelona noticed the player. He has lived most of his playing career in England. His signing for West Ham was key to avoiding relegation and renewing his contract until 2012.

In 2010, he joined Chelsea, but played little in the lions' shirt. Between loans and transfers, he has only defended the blue shirt in 16 games. After playing one season for Queens Park Rangers, he decided to return to his country of origin. He returned to Israel, to Maccabi Tel Aviv. He was in several Israeli teams, until at 38 years of age and wearing the Beitar Jerusalem shirt he announced his goodbye to professional football.

The bad moment that he and his family experienced

His family, who was staying at Kibbutz Beeri, located in southern Israel, near the border with the Gaza Strip, was brutally attacked last Saturday. Luckily, all members survived the Hamas terrorist attack. They took refuge in a small storage room on the top floor and one of them wrote to Benayoun to rescue them, since there were terrorists in the room. Three Hamas militants found the hiding place where an adult and several minors were hiding. In a brave act, Shaked decided to confront them and killed his attackers.
