Mason Greenwood has surprised everyone with his performances this season. He arrived at Getafe this summer on a one-year loan from Manchester United, as the chiefs decided it would be best for him not to return to Old Trafford to avoid angering some fans. The allegations against him and the year and a half he spent without playing were reasons enough to justify that decision, although many disagreed.

Nevertheless, the forward proved in Spain that his talent is intact. In a few weeks of training with his new teammates, he gained the trust of coach Jose Bordalas and quickly got a place in the team. His performances improved game by game, until he regained the level he had with the Red Devils. That is why he finished 2023 with 5 goals and 4 assists in 15 games.

His talent caught the attention of several important clubs in Europe and during the last weeks there has been a lot of talk about his future. Some Italian teams, such as Lazio and AS Roma, were mentioned as possible destinations for Mason. However, reports indicate that he is happy in Spain and that is where he has the best chances of playing.

Valencia and Real Sociedad are interested in him, as well as Getafe, who will do their best to keep him after his loan expires on June 30. But Barcelona are the favorites. According to The Sun, the Catalan side are not only willing to pay more than $40 million for him, but also to offer him Lionel Messi's legendary No. 10 jersey to try to persuade him. However, they are not the only ones interested in him.

Simeone wants him too

Barcelona will have to compete with Atletico Madrid for Mason Greenwood. Diego Simeone's team are looking for a forward and the English player fits the characteristics they need. Even Antoine Griezmann spoke about him after the 3-3 draw against Getafe a couple of weeks ago and said: "He really caused us a lot of problems in the second half. We couldn't stop him and it cost us the game."
