The plan that Barcelona has prepared to repatriate Lionel Messi is more than ambitious and one of the keys for this to be carried out is to comply with the Financial Fair Play. To comply with this, the amount to be collected is more than 200 million euros and the leadership has already started with the necessary adjustments to collect them. As a first measure, they asked the players on the squad to reduce their salaries, to which two important figures flatly refused.

The request for the amount mentioned above is claimed by Javier Tebas president of La Liga. Another of the options that the leadership of the culé team is considering is the sale of players, although they have not yet received offers for any member of the squad. We must also remember that due to these economic conflicts, previously some players had already agreed to reduce their salaries in their contracts.

As reported by Sport, some players in the squad have already received this request, many have given the go-ahead, but some have responded negatively. These are two important figures such as Frank Kessie from Ivory Coast and Andreas Christensen from Denmark. Both arrived in Barcelona at the end of the 2021/22 season, coming from Milan and Chelsea respectively.

The reason why Kessie and Christensen are not going to lower their salary

Both players consider that they have already made this effort, to reduce their salary, last year, when they left their previous clubs, after going free. They also point out that they left behind other better paid offers, to be part of the Blaugrana club. On the other hand, Joan Laporta's intention is to be able to sell these players, considering that he can get a great economic benefit from them and, in addition to freeing himself from their salaries, being able to put money into the club's coffers, with the intention of making Lionel Messi's return a reality.
