There is no doubt that the first months of Lionel Messi in Miami began an unprecedented revolution in the United States. His presence in the club owned by David Beckham gave a different shine to Major League Soccer (MLS). After the end of his first season on America, the former british soccer player told details about Leo's arrival and explained the real reason for it.

Leo's arrival was accompanied by the hiring of Sergio Busquets and Jordi Alba to strengthen the squad with experience. But, in addition, the North American leadership is already studying alternatives to strengthen the offensive sector after the departure of attacker Josef Martínez and, there, the main candidate to replace him is another former FC Barcelona player: Luis Suárez.

Regarding Messi, David Beckham was in an interview with the news agence AFP and referred to the ‘Messi Revolution, experienced during his 14 games with Inter Miami, in which he scored 11 goals and gave 5 assists: “It is a pride to have a player like him, the best player in the world, on our team. We always knew that bringing Leo to the United States, not just to Miami, was our gift to America and the MLS. “It's still hard to believe when someone turns to me and tells me that Inter Miami has Lionel Messi on their team”, he added.

Why did he brought Messi to the USA?

However, leaving aside the multimillion-dollar profits that the arrival of Messi has brought him, Beckham told what was one of the most important reasons for convincing Leo to wear this shirt: “One of the reasons why we bought it was to inspire also the next generation of soccer players in America to want to be soccer players. Messi has that power. Bringing him in accomplishes that and is something important for us”. “Someone like that changes the game, inspires another generation of footballers. And that's why we wanted to bring Leo to the team. Of course, we want to win championships and be the best team in the league”, he said.
