Vinicius Jr. was expected to return after three weeks of inactivity for today’s match.

Real Madrid will play today against Atletico Madrid in the Classic Metropolitan Derby in the Civitas Stadium in order to begin the sixth week of La Liga’s tournament. Early in the week, Real Madrid confirmed that Arda Güler and the young Brazilian striker Vinicius Jr, would be returning for today’s matchup, but Vini has been added to the injury reserve list once again.

Real Madrid confirmed Vini’s sideline early in the morning in their social media accounts. The good news is that the striker is no longer injured, as his femoral biceps has now recovered, but he is ill with a stomach flu that will prevent him from seeing any activity in the Spaniard Derby.

Carlo Ancelotti, Real Madrid 's manager, confirmed that Vinicius Jr. returned to the practice squad on Friday and Saturday before the match, as he has been activated by the medical team and was put off the injury reserve list.

He trained because the risk was zero. If tomorrow we believe that there is a certain percentage of risk, we are not going to risk him. We will talk about it tomorrow with complete calm and tranquility. The important thing is that Vinicius has recovered. I told him that he lacks a little physical condition, it is quite normal, but these are things that we will evaluate tomorrow.”, said Ancelotti before the bad news for Vinicius came early in the morning.

Who will be in Real Madrid’s lineup?

Unfortunately Vinicius Jr. will have to wait a little longer to play again, but the good thing is that he is no longer injured. Arda Güller, the Turkish midfielder returned alongside Vini throughout this week, he is expected to be in today’s lineup against Atletico Madrid for the Spanish Derby.

Dani Carvajal is another unexpected turn down for today’s match, as he underwent to a MRI to check what’s the problem on his back that has been bothering him in the last few weeks.

Real Madrid’s possible XI: Kepa; Fran García, Alaba, Rüdiger, Lucas; Camavinga, Kroos, Valverde; Bellingham, Rodrygo, Joselu.
