Manchester City is officially defeated, and lost their six straight victory streak in today’s match versus Wolverhampton in order to play the seventh week of the Premier League tournament and their leadership may be in danger if Liverpool FC manages to win over Tottenham Hotspur, who are currently 0-1.
Manchester City was indeed the favorite of the odds to win this match, as the Wolves have only managed to win once (now twice) throughout the whole English tournament. But a big surprise was given to the Citizens when they weren’t able to even tie the game versus the Wolves. It is their second straight loss as they come from being eliminated by Newcastle United from the EFL Cup.
Pep Guardiola couldn’t be on the field to command their team but he was seen very disappointing by the way the sky blues played against Wolverhampton. During the postgame press conference, Pep Guardiola had this toy say, “Congratulations to Wolves, they deserved it. We had chances and struggled to deal with transitions and they played very well. We were there and settled well and the question is when the opponent is faster and quicker, we have to accept it.”.
Manchester City is dealing with a lot of injured players, and according to Pep Guardiola is due to the so tight schedule they have, and he also gave a teaser on Silva’s return, “Bernardo [Silva] is soon to come back and John [Stones] is soon to come back and we will see how many players we have for the UEFA Champions League”.
Manchester City has to forget its elimination from the EFL Cup by Newcastle and focus on the Premier League and Champions League, where they have demonstrated they are the top contenders for both competitions.
For Pep Guardiola's luck, the injury reserve list has decreased, as they have key playmakers now available such as Jack Grealish and Kovacic that will surely help them to obtain more victories throughout the remainder of the season. Nevertheless, today's loss versus the Wolves, proves that no one can get away from defeat, and the Citizens will have to improve their performance if they want to still be a top contender.
Manchester City's schedule for the upcoming week will be: RB Leipzig for the second week of the UEFA Champions League on Wednesday October the 4th; Arsenal on Sunday 8th; and Brighton Hooves on October the 21st.
