Manchester City has received assurances that Wolverhampton Wanderers will entertain the notion of considering a second bid for Matheus Nunes. Nevertheless, it's been communicated by sources of ESPN that the City will disengage from any potential deal unless there's a mutual understanding concerning the valuation of the Portuguese international.

On Wednesday, City's £47 million offer was turned down, with feedback indicating a substantial discrepancy from Wolves' assessment of the midfielder's value. According to The Telegraph insiders, Wolves are not interested on letting Nunes to depart, but they acknowledge that a significant bid would justify contemplation, primarily due to the 24-year-old player's expressed interest in the transfer.

Sources affiliated with ESPN have indicated an anticipation of a follow-up offer, although Manchester City remains determined in their position not to overspend and has made it clear they will discontinue negotiations if Wolves don't moderate their demands. Matheus Nunes might be ready to make a move to the Premier League.

The Citizens recently pulled back from a deal for West Ham midfielder Lucas Paquetá, who is currently under investigation for betting-related issues. Meanwhile, alternative targets are under examination.

City's financial resources have been strengthened by over £50 million from player sales, including approximately £9 million from Romeo Lavia's transfer from Southampton to Chelsea, as well as another £30 million from Riyad Mahrez's move to Al Ahli; Meanwhile, Aymeric Laporte has finalized his transfer to Saudi Arabia's Pro League side, Al Nassr. City will receive a fee of £23.5 million for the Spanish international defender, pushing their overall earnings past the £100 million.

What does Guardiola think, and why would Wolverhampton have the need to sell Nunes?

Guardiola has held a deep admiration for Nunes over an extended period, lavishing him with praise in the past by labeling him as 'one of the finest globally.' This praise was granted upon the midfielder during his period at Sporting Lisbon, back when he was participating in the Champions League, before his transfer to Molineux.

Wolves are hesitant to permit Nunes' departure during the latter stages of the summer transfer window due to his crucial role within Gary O'Neil's tactics. Nevertheless, their financial challenges might render it excessively tough to turn down such a significant offer.
