Lionel Messi just keeps on proving that he's more mature than Mbappé.

Lionel Messi doesn't usually give too many interviews, but when he does, his statements don't go unnoticed. He recently broke his silence about his future for Sport and Mundo Deportivo and made it clear that his intention had always been to return to Barcelona. Now, he spoke again from China and shocked everyone with what he said.

The most resonant was his confirmation that he will not play the 2026 World Cup, but he also touched on other topics. One of them was the possibility of winning the Ballon d'Or again: "No, at this stage of my life it is no longer important to me. I always said it, the individual awards are not what matters to me, but the collective ones. The most important prize at the moment is the World Cup. This is the biggest prize for me."

It should be remembered that in the last installment he was not even included by France Football among the best 30. Finally the winner was Karim Benzema, who has just gone to football in Saudi Arabia. The new edition will be held in October and, although Messi is no longer too interested, he is one of the great candidates along with Erling Haaland. Kylian Mbappé, for his part, still hasn't made enough merits to be able to fight for one.

All Messi's individual awards in the 2022/23 season

Despite the fact that the captain of the Argentine National Team gives more importance to collective goals, the truth is that his individual season was a success. He won the award for best player at the 2022 World Cup in Qatar (the only one in history to win it twice) and was later awarded the FIFA The Best and Laureus awards for best player and best sportsman of the year, respectively.
