Lionel Messi is causing a revolution in the MLS. The Argentine has been amazing since he joined Inter Miami: he has 11 goals and 5 assists in the first 9 games with his new team. He has also changed the course of the franchise he's a part of now, as he lead the team to win the League's Cup, achieving the first trophy in franchise's history.

The football ‘GOAT’ has captivated the attention of millions of americans as they've seen Messi's impact on the league. Big stars like Thierry Henry, Inter Miami owner David Beckham, Andrea Pirlo, Zlatan Ibrahimovic and more have joined MLS in the past, but Messi is by far the biggest football player to ever play in the league.

People's perception was that the big stars of the European football looked forward to join leagues like the MLS when their retirement was relatively close and their best days were long gone. For example, when Thierry Henry signed a 5 season contract with the New York Red Bull after a 3 year spell in FC Barcelona, the French player had a market value of just 13 million dollars.

That is also the case for players like Zlatan, that joined Los Angeles Galaxy when his market value dropped down to 5,5 million dollars. But that's not the case for Messi. Despite the fact that the 36 year-old world champion currently has his lowest market value ever, as he was worth $200 million dollars in 2018, it's still enough for him to be the most expensive footballer to have played in American soccer.

The shocking market value of Messi

With a 37 million dollars valuation, Messi became the most expensive player to ever play in the MLS. He's well above the young star Thiago Almada who remains second in terms of market value with a 29 million valuation. Here's the current top 10 players with highest market value in MLS:

Lionel Messi: $37 million
Thiago Almada: $29 million
Sebastián Driussi: $16 million
Facundo Torres: $15 million
Hany Mukhtar: $13 million
Riqui Puig: $13 million
Talles Magno: $13 million
Cucho Fernández: $11 million
Jesús Ferreira: $9,7 million
Brandom Vázquez: $9 million
