Lionel Messi and Argentina are less than 24 hours away from playing a crucial match in the qualifiers to play in the 2026 World Cup. After winning against Paraguay by one goal to zero, now the World Cup champions in Qatar are preparing to play against Peru, in a match that would consolidate them as sole leaders of CONMEBOL

Lionel Messi has been suffering from physical discomfort for about a month, which is why he has missed five games, one with Argentina and four with Inter Miami. Against Paraguay, Lionel managed to play about 40 minutes of the game, showing good signs, and although he played well, Lionel did not seem to have absolute confidence to play as he is accustomed to playing.

Naturally, Argentines and Americans are wondering if Lionel Messi will start against Peru, or more importantly, if he will even be able to play some minutes. Now, Lionel Scaloni, the coach of the world champions, has spoken about Lionel Messi's injury and gave clues about whether he will play or not.

“Tomorrow we are going to decide if Lionel Messi plays. Okay, add training and we will make the decision tomorrow. If he is well, he will play,” commented Lionel Scaloni. Argentina is first place, because Brazil was careless and tied against Venezuela. Lionel's participation is important, because in Major League Soccer there is also concern, since Messi has planned some friendly matches for commercial purposes and if his injury relapses it could be detrimental.
