So that’s exactly what we’re going to do. The majority of players have regressed since the promising 2022/23 season when United ended their six-year wait for silverware. That season also culminated in a third-place finish in the Premier League – that is looking increasingly unlikely this year as Erik ten Hag’s men continue to plummet down the table due to their inconsistent form.

One player has, however, made serious strides in his development and that’s Alejandro Garnacho. Garnacho was in and out of the team last year due to Marcus Rashford’s sparkling form but now, he’s the first-choice option on the left wing. Now, before United’s first fixture of 2023, United have announced on their official website that Garnacho is the latest recipient of the Player of the Month award.

The winner of the award is chosen each month by the supporters, with Garnacho beating Jonny Evans and Kobbie Mainoo with his dominant 64% of votes. Garnacho was directly involved in four goals in December, meaning he had a hand in more than half of the goals United scored in the twelfth month of the year.

His two strikes came in the unforgettable Boxing Day win over Aston Villa, where he scored a second-half brace to kickstart a remarkable turnaround against Unai Emery’s men before Rasmus Hojlund scored the winner.
