It's been a long time since Lionel Messi's debut, back in October 2004. Messi has always been a special player for Barcelona and it didn't take long for him to become the absolute emblem of the club. However, at the beginning of him with the 30 on his back, he had to eat bench like all youth.

Ludovic Giuly played in his position. This outstanding French striker arrived at Barcelona in June 2004 after dazzling with AS Monaco and ended up being key to the blaugrana's consecration in the 2006 UEFA Champions League. Finally, in 2007 he would end up signing for Roma and the current captain of the National Team Argentina would go on to take more prominence in the eleven.

After his retirement, Giuly ventured into the world of technical management and in June 2022 he became the forward coach of Olympique de Lyon. However, he has just resigned from his position for personal reasons. Along the same lines, Ludovic never hesitated to give his football opinion in different media, and the case of Messi at PSG was no exception. Unlike many French journalists, the former player recommended that Paris Saint-Germain (the club he played for) renew the Rosario player, but they ignored him.

What had Giuly said about Messi's renewal at PSG?

“When you see the World Cup that he did, it is because he had prepared well before, you have to convince PSG to renew him. I remind you that we are talking about Lionel Messi, the best player in the world. He shows that he is capable of continuing to contribute a lot. A guy who can, at any time, with a pass, a dribble, a shot or a free kick, make the difference, you have to keep it”.
