Manchester City were held to a draw by Borussia Dortmund, but still managed to secure their place at the top of the UEFA Champions League round of 16 group. Pep Guardiola's side had a discreet game, but what was most surprising was that the Spanish coach decided to take Haaland off at halftime.

The Norwegian has confessed on more than one occasion that the Champions League is his favorite competition and in that sense, facing his former team also motivates him and it could be seen in the welcome he received when he came on the field. However, Haaland's first half was not the best and Guardiola decided to substitute him in a surprising way.

The Norwegian was not very pleased with his departure from the field and from the bench he looked a bit serious. However, Pep Guardiola confessed at the post-match press conference the real reasons why Haaland did not come on in the second half. For the Spanish coach, it is paramount to look after his striker.

What excuse did Guardiola give for taking Haaland off?

Pep Guardiola talked to different media at the end of the game. The coach explained the great reason on Erling Haaland being replaced: "Three things: I saw him so tired. The second one he had a bit of a fever, like Joao. The third, he had a knock in his feet. That is why he wasn't able to play in the second half.
