Being a legend is not enough, what Cristiano needs to do if he wants to play at Euro 2024

The portuguese star player's desires are strong, but the probability of it might not be in his favor

The portuguese star player's desires are strong, but the probability of it might not be in his favor

CR7 is the all-time top scorer with national teams with 117 goals and he plans on extending the record in the upcoming world cup.  He has stated that he does not want to retire from Portugal's national team just yet. In fact, Cristiano said he wants to play the 2024 Euro.

Ronaldo's season so far is not even close to a regular season, but his capacity as a player is never in doubt. In fact, Bruno Fernandes stated that his teammate ‘will always have the same importance’ because he's ‘the best in the world’. However, for Ronaldo to keep his position in the national team, his ‘legend’ status won't be enough, even improving his numbers might not be enough.

Ronaldo will be 39 in 2024 and even now, at 37 and being in one of Europe's top club's, he's not getting the attention and making the impact he should. Top european clubs rejected the portuguese all through the transfer window and it seems like nobody will take him either for money, performance or the chance to get younger players to last longer.

For CR7 to play with Portugal until 2024 he must find a top 5 club in Europe, have more minutes on the pitch, improve his numbers and most importantly prove that age is just a number for him to compete with young emerging talents from his home nation that are increasing rapidly.

Ronaldo wants to break more records

If Ronaldo manages to reach a spot at the 2024 Euro, he would be one of the oldest players to ever participate in this competition, a record that currently belongs to the German legend Lothar Matthäus. Cristiano Ronaldo will be 39 in 2024 and could break several records in the UEFA Euro 2024 if he gets to play it. He could become the oldest player to score in this competition, the oldest to play and win and to play and score in a final if he were to reach him.
