
The FIFA Best Awards are on track since last Thursday when the maximum football authority confirmed the nominees list, where multiple athletes shines on the short list like Lionel Messi, Kylian Mbappé, Linda Caicedo and the Spanish female World Champions Jenni Hermoso, Aitana Bonmati, Mapi Leon and Salma Paralluelo.
The young promises are also trying to conquer this award like Erling Haaland, Julian Avarez and Bernardo Silva, but everybody has been talking about why Real Madrid’s Brazilian striker, Vinicius Jr, didn't even make the cut.
“I saw Vinicius crying in the dressing room, he was very sad, hes been crying for three or four hours for not making it into the list. I asked him ‘what's wrong?‘ and he told me that he wasn't on the list. He was crying and we were not able to stop him.” Carlo Ancelotti said in a press conference when asked about his opinion on FIFA The Best nominees.
The Brazilian striker didn’t make it to the UEFA Awards list neither last year and that upset Real Madrid as well. Ancelotti was very clear on that also, “For me, Vinicius Jr is the best in the world, his speed, his one on one, the plays he creates, the goals he has, today no one plays like him”.
The FIFA Best Awards 2023 will be the eight occasion since they were created in 2017 edition where Cristiano Ronaldo won for his achievements made in 2016 by winning UEFA Champions League and the World Club Championship.
Lionel Messi won 2022 edition alongside with his Argentinian teammates, like Emiliano “Dibu”Martinez for best goalkeeper of the year, Lionel Scaloni won best manager for his work in Qatar 2022, and even the Argentinian fans won an award for being the best crowd.
This time, the list is actually very long, the nominees for Best Male Player are: Julian Alvarez (Argentina); Marcelo Brozović (Croatia); Kevin De Bruyne (Belgium); Ilkay Gündogan (Germany); Erling Haaland (Norway); Rodri Hernandez Cascante (Spain); Khvicha Kvaratskhelia (Georgia); Kylian Mbappé (France); Lionel Messi (Argentina); Victor Osimhen (Nigeria); Declan Rice (England); Bernardo Silva (Portugal).
Vinicius Jr. didn’t make it to the final cut of the list but his numbers are set to be seen and to be recognised: 55 games played with Real Madrid, 23 goals, 19 assists and winning Copa del Rey with the Spanish club.
