Lionel Messi seems to be far away from Barcelona at the moment, the club announced that he will leave this summer. Major League Soccer's transfer window closes on Thursday night, but it does not apply to free agents like Messi and for some that would be key to Lionel's arrival. Could the Argentine play in the United States?

The odds of Lionel Messi playing for any MLS team are slim. While he was in Miami this summer and that linked him directly to Inter Miami. Las Vegas mostly favors European teams like Paris Saint-Germain and Manchester City. Those who believe Lionel Messi is going to stay at Barcelona have great odds in the betting as well.

Messi, who has been vacationing in Miami, the Dominican Republic and Ibiza the past few weeks, was not really satisfied with the way Barcelona plans to approach the new season on the pitch. Barcelona issued a statement this afternoon announcing that Messi will not continue at the club. The 34-year-old Argentine and the Catalan club could not reach a new agreement to keep him at the club for which he has played for more than 21 years.

Inter Miami may be the destination that best suits Messi. The team is located in Florida, where it is surrounded by the best areas of the country and a perfect climate. On the sporting side, simply the name of David Beckham backing the project is synonymous with quality. From the start, they have not held back their checkbook and already have in their ranks Argentine Gonzalo Higuain, Blaise Matuidi and Rodolfo Pizarro, who are the faces of the team and names to follow in the season.

Messi's short-term future has pointed in recent months to Manchester City. The Argentine could arrive in the Premier League to play the last stages of his career and meet again with Pep Guardiola. If he arrives at City, his transfer to MLS would be easier since New York City belongs to the English team's general manager Ferran Soriano.
