Emilio Azcárraga, owner of Club América, has been criticized for keeping Santiago Baños as Las Águilas chairman after the disappointing results they’ve had this season and the lack of acquisitions according to the level América needs.

Santiago Solari was clear about what he needed in order to have a roster strong enough to contend for Clausura 2022 title, but Baños was never able to close the deals Solari needed. Brian Ocampo, Agustín Canobbio, Pablo Solari, Paul Arriola, Iván Alejo, Alejandro Jiménez were all players that Solari wanted and Baños couldn’t help him to acquire.
People were having a hard time understanding why Azcárraga decided to keep him as Club América chairman, but reports suggest that is because he’s not the one taking decisions for Las Águilas. Instead, his place was taken by a Mexican entrepreneur called Mariana Baños.
Mariana Baños is a Mexican entrepreneur that has characterized for her philanthropic side. She founded a non-profit association in 1999 that advocates to help women in need. She also turns out to be one of Azcárraga wife’s best friends and Santiago Baños sister.
