Reforms in Mexican soccer have already been announced by the president of the Mexican soccer federation and the president of Liga MX. Mikel Arriola announced that foreign investment would be one of them, in order to empower teams and eradicate issues that affect the development of Mexican soccer, such as multiple ownership.

Mikel Arriola acknowledged that one of the ways to eliminate multiple ownership is for more investors to arrive and want to contribute to Mexican professional soccer. In this sense, there are several consortiums worldwide that work with this type of model, one of them being City Football Group, which owns several teams worldwide, the most prominent being Manchester City.

Can City Football Group invest in Mexico?

According to the portal Debate, one of the teams that could be acquired is Chivas, which according to the late president Jorge Vergara was valued at close to 800 million dollars. Cruz Azul or América, other big teams, could also look for this type of investment; however, City Football Group usually looks for teams where they can carry out their model without the pressure of the fans, so Chivas could be an atypical target for the Guadalajara team. In Latin America, two teams stand out, Montevideo City Torque in Uruguay and Bolivar in Bolivia.
