Cruz Azul´s executive board has been busy looking for new reinforcements for Clausura 2022. After the departures of Orbelín Pineda, Yoshimar Yotún, and Walter Montoya the club seeks replacements.

The first reinforcement was confirmed two days ago, after the Uruguayan player, Christian Tabó, was welcomed by La Máquina. However, this is not the only signing that the team wants. Few names have sound around Juan Reynoso´s side, which failed in the last tournament after not qualifying to the quarter-finals.

Besides the Uruguayan arrival, Cruz Azul is about to close a swap between Roberto Alvarado, Celeste player and Uriel Antuna and Alejandro Mayorga, Chivas of Guadalajara players. Also, the board of directors are after Unai Bilbao, Club Atlético de San Luis defender, and Joaquín Montecinos, Chilean player that performs for Audax Italiano.

Who is Joaquín Montecinos?

Joaquín Montecinos father, Cristian Montecinos played for Cruz Azul Hidalgo, Santos Laguna, Necaxa and Puebla. Joaquín Montecinos was born in Colombia when his dad played for a Colombian side but his entire career has been played in Chilean soccer. Unión Temuco, La Serena, Melipilla, and Audax Italiano have been the clubs where Joaquín Montecinos has played.

He made his debut with the Chilean national team in October for the 2022 World Cup qualifiers. He also played in the recent friendly match against Mexico in Austin, Texas, where he was one of the best players on the pitch during the match.

Joaquín Montecino gave good impressions against the Mexican soccer team

Joaquín Montecinos against Mexico became one of the most active players in the green box, the Chilean created several goal-scoring situations, as well as good performance on the wing, which allowed the Cruz Azul board of directors to resume negotiations.

One of the 26-year-old winger's soccer skills is that he has great speed and knows the right moment to mark his opponents, so if he arrives at La Noria, Joaquín Montecinos would be one of the strongest cards for Juan Reynoso.

Montecinos has been in Cruz Azul eyes before

“I see Cruz Azul as a strong candidate to take the player. I think they will come with everything, because in fact they have been scouting for four months, so they are the ones who know the player the best. The fact that Héctor Lara and Mr. Álvaro Dávila always bet on the Chilean market and it gives them results also plays in their favor", said one source to ESPN.

"He's surely going to be a good hire for them and he's very interested in playing for Cruz Azul."

As the Chilean player has been scouted for the last four months for La Máquina, it is very reasonable that the executive board of Cruz Azul could make a good proposal for Audax Italiano and for Joaquín Montecinos.

Joaquín Montecinos plays as a right-winger and could substitute the position that Roberto Alvarado could leave if he joins Chivas of Guadalajara. If this trade goes on, Uriel Antuna will be his competitor for this position which will become a hard decision to make for manager Juan Reynoso. However, the Chilean player also can play as a midfielder or as a right-back, which benefits the Chilean as he is a versatile player.
