Jesus Angulo leaves Atlas after being champion and joins Tigres

Everything seems to indicate that after winning the Liga MX championship with Atlas, Jesus Angulo will go to play for Tigres, the team against which he played in this Apertura 2021 tournament in a match that ended in a draw.  

This information was released by journalist Willie Gonzales, who is in charge of covering the Nuevo León team in the league.

The journalist assured that this move is ready and that Angulo has already signed with Tigres so that he will play with the team from the north of the country in the next tournament.

It has been an unforgettable tournament for Angulo, considering that he had a scare in the semifinal match against Pumas, when Dinenno accidentally knocked him out while attempting a Chilena.  

Why does Tigres need Jesus Angulo?

Tigres' defense was the team's weakest link in the 2021 Apertura. The team conceded 5 goals in the Mexican Soccer Playoffs. 

Three of these were the ones that cut short their aspirations of reaching the final, so the team's need to strengthen their defense is understandable. 

Tigres' coach, Miguel Herrera, is looking for a player who can also attack, but without forgetting that his priority is the defense. 

And "Stitch" Angulo has shown that this tournament he was the best center back on the left and winger on the same flank in the tournament. 

The defender's numbers are a clear sign that powerful teams, such as Tigres, would not take long to want him for their team. 

In the previous tournament he played 18 matches and provided 516 good passes, and in the Apertura 2021 his numbers were also spectacular: in 15 matches played, Angulo provided 423 good passes. 

These numbers explain why the Tigres board was so focused on acquiring the defender from the Zorros. 

It is not the first time tigres is looking for Angulo

It happened in the Guard1anes 2020 tournament, when Tigres tried to take the defender from Atlas, but on that occasion the Rojinegros' board did not agree to do without the player. 

Tigres made several offers to exchange players or buy Jesus Angulo from Atlas, but the Jalisco club simply refused to release the player. 

Moreover, Angulo is not the only player Miguel Herrera will be looking for in this transfer market. The coach also wants William Tesillo or Bruno Valdez to strengthen his defense. 

The arrival of Jesus Angulo to Tigres has been much sought after by the board of directors of the Nuevo León team. A few days ago, they even announced the financial offer they were trying to make for the player. 

Journalist David Medrano had revealed that Tigres had offered eight million dollars to Atlas to obtain the player.

While Angulo's arrival at Tigres is officially confirmed, the player's words to the media after winning the Liga MX are still echoing. 

"We always had faith, at the beginning I don't think anyone believed, but we were always a united team, our faith intact, with hard work and the Virgin always supported us," were his words after the match. 

The player was part of the Mexican National Team that won the Bronze medal at the Tokyo 2020 Olympic Games, being a key player in Jaime Lozano's scheme.
