Mexican media reported that Gary Kagelmacher, a former Real Madrid player, will join Leon and play in Liga MX 2022

So far, the club has not confirmed the information, but it seems that the news could be announced on the club's social networks in the near future.

The 33-year-old Uruguayan defender had a long career in European teams and last year he played with Peñarol, current champion of the Uruguayan First Division, the team with which Gary was crowned

The player will come to reinforce the defense of Leon, a team that was runner-up in the Apertura 2022 and was criticized after the final for defensive errors that prevented them from winning the Liga MX

Gary Kagelmacher played for Real Madrid and Monaco

The player is the surprise of Liga MX 2022 as he was part of Real Madrid, a team he played for since 2009 when Juan de Ramos was in charge of Los Merengues.

At that time, the player had the opportunity to go up to the first team to play a La Liga match against Osasuna, a match in which Kagelmacher played alongside the central defender Christoph Metzelder

However, since his time at Real Madrid was not what he had hoped for, Kagelmacher went to try his luck with Monaco in France's Ligue 2, with the mission of achieving promotion.

And it worked out for him because he was always a starter in Claudio Rainieri's Monaco and won promotion to Ligue 1 in the 2012-13 season. However, he left the French club because the new owners of the club wanted to invest in European players now that the team was already in the first division.

And after a tour of other European teams, the player decided to return to Uruguay to play with Peñarol, and although his first season with the club was not very good, in the second, under the guidance of coach Mauricio Larriera, Kagelmacher would win the Clausura tournament and the Uruguayan annual tournament.

He was also chosen in the ideal eleven of 2021 of the Uruguayan league in the awards of the Uruguayan Football Association (AUF).

Peñarol has already confirmed the departure of Gary Kagermachel

Although neither Peñarol nor Leon have made official the arrival of the player to the Mexican League 2022, Gary Kagermachel has already spoken about it and in an interview with ESPN said that it is a very important opportunity and that both he and Peñarol decided to take it

"It's almost done. It was not my idea to leave, not at all, but this came up yesterday (Sunday) and it is a very important offer and we decided to take it," said the player.

He also stated, "It is a nice market and a new challenge. It was from one day to the other, and it happened because I have a clause. I really didn't expect it".

Thus, the Uruguayan champion loses an essential part of its defense, but for the time being it keeps Ramón Arias, Edgar Elizalde, and Agustín Da Silveira.
