Cruz Azul and Juárez faced each other in round two of Liga MX. The match took place at the Azteca Stadium and ended with a win for the home team. Juan Reynoso's team managed to win 1-0 against Tuca Ferreti's team. The scorer of the only goal of the match was Charly Rodríguez, who scored his second goal in the tournament.

The match practically began with Cruz Azul's goal. Five minutes into the game, Uriel Antuna intercepted the Bravos in the midfield, looked up, and subtly slipped the ball to Charly Rodríguez. The former Monterrey player got in front of Hugo González and shot powerfully at the near post. As a result, Rodríguez has now scored in two consecutive matches with his new team.

Charly Rodríguez breaks single records

With this goal, Charly surpassed the number of goals he scored last season with Rayados. At the same time, he surpassed his maximum number of goals scored in a Liga MX tournament, since during the five seasons he was with the northern team, his maximum number of goals was one per tournament.

When Rodríguez arrived at Cruz Azul, in one of his first interviews he revealed that one of the aspects he needed to improve was his finishing and that he would like to improve his goal-scoring rhythm with La Máquina. After two matchdays, his words have been reflected on the field.

The rest of the first half was defined by its intermittency and lack of shots on goal. At the 22nd minute, Cruz Azul's captain, José de Jesús Corona, was booked for taking too long to restart the game. Later, at minute 32, Juan Escobar was cautioned for a foul. On the Juárez side, Joaquín Esquivel also received a yellow card.

In the second half of the match, changes began for both teams. In the 50th minute, the Bravos had their first shot on goal, which was saved by Corona, and the action ended in a corner kick. Cruz Azul's response was a mid-range shot by Ignacio Rivero.

Mayorga made his debut in the Cruz Azul jersey

In the 65th minute, Alejandro Mayorga made his debut with La Máquina when he came on for Luis Ángel Mendoza. Ten minutes later, the scorer of the goal, Charly Rodríguez, left the field among applauses and gave his place to Rómulo Otero. Among the changes was the introduction of Santiago Giménez, a striker who played his first minutes of the current season.

In the 80th minute, Fabian Castillo came close to scoring the equalizer. He shot with the inside of his left foot and tried to place the ball in the upper right corner, but the shot went wide.

In this way, Cruz Azul obtained its second win in two rounds of the tournament. The match ended 1-0 and took the Celestes to six points, which places them in second place overall in the league. Juárez, on the other hand, was unable to continue its good start to the tournament.

Not since 2018 had Cruz Azul been able to start a tournament with two consecutive victories. On that occasion, under the management of Pedro Caixinha, the Celeste team was able to reach the final. At the same time, this start of the tournament resembles the tournament a year ago when Reynoso managed to become champion with the team.

For the next matchday, La Máquina will visit Monterrey at BBVA Stadium on Saturday, January 22 at 21:00. Juárez will also visit Atlético San Luis on Thursday, November 20 at 21:00.
