Now, Jaime Ordiales, sporting director of the Cementeros, is looking to find the next coach to come to La Noria to help raise Cruz Azul. After Ferretti and Hugo Sánchez are no longer options to arrive, new names are appearing.

One of the coaches who has been in the spotlight is Diego Aguirre, a Uruguayan coach who has coached in Brazil, Argentina, Uruguay, and Qatar. The coach had already been sought previously by Ordiales when he was a director at Atlas in the 2000s and later also sought him with Querétaro, in 2017 approximately, however, he never closed the contract and now the same may happen and that is why there are three coaching options.

Who are the options to lead La Máquina?

According to journalist León Lecanda, Cruz Azul also has as options to bring to La Noria Francisco Palencia, former player of Los Celestes in the 2000s, Jose Manuel de la Torre, former coach of the Mexican national team, and Rubén Omar Romano, an Argentinean coach who has coached Cruz Azul at some point in his career.

Francisco Palencia

The former player and now coach began his career with Pumas UNAM in 2016, where he spent just over a year and coached 50 games. In addition to coaching the Auriazules, Palencia coached Lobos BUAP, a team that no longer exists, and Mazatlán, the last team he coached and where he spent just one season.

Jose Manuel de la Torre

Chepo is a much more experienced coach. He began his career with Guadalajara in 2006 and was Clausura champion with the Rebaño Sagrado. Subsequently, he coached Toluca, a team in which he has been in two stages and made them champions of Liga MX on three occasions.

After his success with the Choriceros, Chepo arrived at the Mexican national team, where he won the Gold Cup, however, in the qualification for the 2014 World Cup in Brazil he had many problems and was dismissed. Afterward, Jose Manuel de la Torre has been less and less successful, but he still managed Santos Laguna, Chivas de Guadalajara again and Toluca, the team he last managed in 2020.

Rubén Omar Romano

The Argentinean also has a long track record dating back to 2022 when he coached Monarcas Morelia, a team that later became Mazatlan. Romano has coached 8 teams in Mexico and with some, he has repeated stints. Morelia, Pachuca, Cruz Azul, Atlas, America, Santos Laguna, Puebla and Tijuana are the teams he has coached. His most successful stage was with Morelia and Santos, which made them champions of Liga MX, and Cruz Azul, with whom he reached the final. However, Romano last coached Atlas in 2018.
