The Concachampions 2022 is approaching and the date of the draw to designate the teams is already known, but how are the Mexican clubs doing ahead of the tournament?

After it was announced that NYCFC was the last team to qualify for the Concachampions, the roster is now complete for CONCACAF's top club competition.

Now, it's time to find out how the Mexican clubs that qualified for this tournament are doing.

How are the Mexican clubs doing?

Cruz Azul

Although this was not La Maquina's tournament, it should not be forgotten that the team has just broken a curse similar to that of the current Mexican soccer champion, Atlas.

After going more than 24 years without winning a title, Cruz Azul was crowned in the Guardianes 2021, a tournament that closed with the epic of this team that finally managed to win the Liga MX again.

Although this Apertura 2021 tournament did not go well for the team, La Maquina has already won the CONCACAF tournament and did so in 2013-2014, snatching the title from Toluca.

Santos

The team from La Laguna qualifies for the tournament as runner-up in the Guardianes 2021, a tournament in which Cruz Azul broke its curse.

This year the team reached fifth place in the general table and was eliminated by Tigres in the quarterfinals of the tournament.

The team from Coahuila is not a minor player in Liga MX and during the 2010-2020 decade they have established themselves as one of the most powerful teams in the tournament.

The team played in 5 finals in 3 years and also won 3 Mexican soccer titles in the aforementioned decade.

And in the same period, they played in two Concachampions finals, but in both, they left the final empty-handed.

Pumas

Another team qualified for the Concachampions 2022 by being runner-up in the Guardianes 2020 when they lost the final to Leon.

The university team did not fare well in the Apertura 2021 but managed to qualify for the Liguilla and play in the semifinal against Atlas, the current Mexican soccer champion.

The university team has already played in the final of the tournament on different occasions and has won it, however, in their last participation in the final, they lost the title to Saprissa.

Leon

The current runner-up in Mexican soccer came into the competition having played in the final of the Apertura 2021, a match in which they lost to Atlas.

It is the fifth most successful club in Mexican soccer with a total of 18 titles, having among its honors eight Leagues, five Cups, and five Champion of Champions.

As a distinction, it has been the first Campeonísimo.

Despite its effectiveness, the team has so far been unable to win the Concachampions title and has also finished as runner-up.

This year, the team did a great job throughout the regular phase of the tournament, beating Puebla and the very powerful Tigres team to reach the Mexican soccer final.

However, in the final, the club was seen as a team focused on defense and lacking the will to win the title.
