Chivas de Guadalajara came from behind to rescue a valuable 1-1 draw against Atlas, in an intense Clásico Tapatío for match day 8 of the Apertura 2022 that could have ended in favor of the Rojiblancos, but in the last minute Santiago Ormeño failed to score a clear chance. However, they are still without a win in the campaign and remain in second-to-last place.
In the first half, the ‘Rebaño Sagrado’ took to the field with everything they had and it was only a minute into the game when, on a run into the box, Ángel Zaldívar served to Isaac Brizuela and, in front of goalkeeper Camilo Vargas, he touched over the top to score the goal that opened the scoring, but the goal was ruled offside, drowning out the screams of the fans at the ‘Gigante de Zapopan’.

The Rojiblancos continued to dominate the ball and, after a foul on Brizuela by Luis Reyes, the referee, Marco Ortiz, ruled that it was a red card, leaving the ‘Rojinegros’ with 10 men. However, this complicated the panorama for the locals, who took several minutes to take shape in the match and, with some mid and long distance shots, put the Atlas goal in danger.
In the 38th minute, Miguel Ponce committed a hard tackle on an opposing defender and also earned a red card, leaving Chivas with 10 players. Before the break, Alexis Vega took a free kick that crashed against the crossbar, in the most dangerous play of the first half. In the second half, Guadalajara slowed down considerably, allowing the Rojinegros to take the lead little by little and, at minute 63, the scoreboard was opened after a free kick from the left flank by Luis Quiñones and the goalkeeper Miguel Jiménez was unable to stop the ball, which ended up going into the net for the visitors' 1-0 lead.
But in the 83rd minute, Chivas cleared their heads and remembered the good soccer they had played under Ricardo Cadena, so they put the rival in their own area and on a pass from Fernando Beltran, Carlos Cisneros with his left foot sent the ball into the net, tying the score 1-1, a result that would eventually be definitive. With this score, Chivas reached six points and next Friday will face Necaxa, although they remain in the penultimate place in the general table.
