Chivas appears in Copa del Rey in Spain, images that go around the world

An unprecedented event took place during the official ceremony to present the fixtures and schedules for the Copa del Rey 2023 in Spain. It turns out that, surprisingly, the Mexican team Chivas de Guadalajara appeared on the broadcast of a major Spanish television station as one of the participants in the competition.

The reality is that Chivas has not participated and will not participate in the Copa del Rey in 2023. What happened was a confusion on the part of the television station GOLTV when presenting the results of the competition due to a mix-up in the logo of a team with the same name as Chivas.

It is precisely Club Deportivo Guadalajara, a third division team in Spain that qualified to the next round of the Copa del Rey after eliminating Lugo. For this reason, the TV station got confused in the shields and put the Mexican Club Deportivo Guadalajara shield instead of the Spanish team.

Why do both teams have the same name?

Club Deportivo Guadalajara is not an extension of Chivas in Spain, far from it. It is a team with the exact same name, but playing in Spanish soccer divisions. Chivas was founded in 1906, but after 17 years it changed its name from Union Futbol Club to Club Deportivo Guadalajara. Curiously, in Spain, its namesake appears in 1947 when it was decided to use the same name.
