Argentina will be playing their final group stage match of the Copa America tonight against Peru at the Hard Rock Stadium in Miami. The team will look different since Lionel Messi will not be starting in the match due to a precaution after suffering a slight muscle discomfort in the match against Chile. Another big change in the team for the match against Peru tonight is that Argentina's national team head coach, Lionel Scaloni, will not be managing the team from the sidelines. Messi's idol, Pablo Aimar, will coach the Argentina National Team against Peru tonight. Scaloni has been suspended for one match and fined by CONMEBOL due to delays in restarting the game in the match against Chile. As a result, he will not be able to coach the team against Peru. He took too long to come out to the sidelines, and the second half's restart was delayed. Chile's manager Ricardo Gareca was also suspended for one match. Argentina's FA was fined $15k.
Walter Samuel spoke at the press conference ahead of the match against Peru, where he is part of Scaloni's camp. When asked about Scaloni's suspension, Samuel said, "We got the news today, it was a shock. He is a bit upset about the situation because we consider ourselves a proper coaching staff that in almost 6 years haven’t had this type of sanctions. He wanted to be with the team but we will abide by what CONMEBOL says."
When asked if Argentina is the favorite to win the Copa America, Samuel said, "Are we the favorites of Copa America? It's hard to be favorites because there are many great teams, we don't like to say that, we always go with 'game-by-game', now we only think about Peru. And then treating each game like a final."
Messi scared Argentina fans when he revealed that he felt pain in his legs after the match against Chile. He wouldn't play in the match against Chile to avoid risking a major injury. Samuel spoke about his condition and said, "Leo had a problem last game. He will not play tomorrow, and then we will go 'day-by-day' waiting for the evolution." Gaston Edul reported that there was no major injury. The strain has resulted in something minor. He's working to be ready for the quarter-finals.
