Lionel Messi and the Argentina national team won another game in the Copa America yesterday as they defeated Chile 1-0 at the MetLife Stadium. Argentina now has six points in Group A, and they have qualified for the quarter-finals of the Copa America. The win was a tough one to get since Chile's goalkeeper, Claudio Bravo, made some impressive saves. Despite the win of Argentina, these is some worry in regards to Messi since he appears to be injured from the game. The Argentine star did not look physically well during the match, and after the game finished, he confirmed that he was not fit for the match and could potentially miss the next game of the group stage, which will be against Peru. Reliable Argentine journalist Gaston Edul reported the situation with Messi. Edul reports that Messi will be rested against Peru, but he will play in the quarterfinals of the Copa America. The Argentine legend had an adductor contracture, and these days, he had a fever, which affected him during the game against Chile.
Messi spoke after the game to clarify what he was feeling physically that affected him during the match against Chile. Messi said, "I played after several days of sore throat and fever, and this may have affected me. As for the injury, it is not something old or something I was suffering from. It is a muscle spasm. We will see."
Messi made some statements that suggested that he was very annoyed about certain decisions for the match against Chile last night at the MetLife Stadium in New Jersey. The Argentine star said, "To participate in these tournaments when it is not possible to play, the player must be replaced in some way, and we knew that it would be like this. I'm honestly a little annoyed but I managed to complete the encounter and I hope it's nothing serious. In the first half, I felt a strain in my thigh muscle. I did not feel severe pain, but it was difficult for me to move freely."
After Lionel Messi's discomfort from the game against Chile, the head coach of the Argentina national team, Lionel Scaloni, will plan to make some changes in the lineup for the next game in Copa America, which will be against Peru. The changes were expected since Argentina is already confirmed to play in the quarterfinals of the Copa America and just needs a point to confirm finishing first in Group A.
Scaloni will likely not play Messi so he can rest, and the coach said, "The next game, the guys who haven't had the opportunity yet are going to play, because I need to see them and because they deserve it." Alejandro Garnacho and Valentin Carboni could be starting the game against Peru this weekend.
