According to German outlet BILD, Cristiano Ronaldo demanded orders from his former manager at Manchester United, Ralf Rangnick, a few years ago. Ronaldo reportedly told his manager, "I’ll tell you how we’re going to do it: I play 4 out of 5 matches. You decide which match I don’t play, but I don’t go on the bench, I watch it at home on TV.” Many football fans find these words disrespectful despite all the success that Ronaldo has achieved. Many consider the manager to be the person that should always be respected in the team, and Ronaldo showcased an attitude many did not expect.

Rangnick was the coach of Manchester United in the 2021/2022 season after Ole Gunnar Solskjaer was sacked. Rangnick was appointed as the interim manager in November 2021 till the end of the season. He coached a total of 29 games in all competitions, where he won 11, drew nine, and lost nine. The German coach played Ronaldo in 22 matches, where the Portuguese striker had 12 goals and provided one assist.

Ronaldo hinted in the past that he was not a fan of Rangnick as a coach of Manchester United, and in an interview with Piers Morgan, he mentions how no one in the club knew that Rangnick was a coach. Ronaldo said, "Nobody [has heard of Rangnick]. The people who I spoke to didn’t know who he was. Of course, I called him the boss, but deep inside me, I never saw him as the boss.” Ronaldo's second spell at Man United was short, as he arrived in the summer of 2021 and left in late 2022.
