In last nights Toronto FC's triumph over New England Revolution Alex Bono achieved 100 games as the starting goalkeeper for Toronto FC.  If when he is behind Quentin Westberg in head coach Gregg Vanney's consideration, Bono is happy with his role as supporter of the starter. He feels blessed to still be part of the Reds's family.

The 26 year-old footballer born in Syraccuse, state of New York, arrived at the club six years ago. In 2017 he earned the starting job as goalkeeper at the same time when Clint Irwin got traded to Colorado Rapids in return for Westberg. Vanney was already Toronto's manager and he supervised every step of that operations.

Even after Westberg's arrival, Bono was able to keep the starting role for  two years, until mid-2019, when Vanney decided the Reds's style of play fitted Westberg better. In the coach's opinion, the French native has better foot-game, so that makes it easier for defenders to start building situations from their own area.

Bono doesn't feel left aside. He said he had talked with Vanney about everything regarding to his role. The goalie feels like the spiritual leader of the team, even from outside the pitch. Moreover, Vanney counts on him, which puts pressure on Westberg to perform at the highest level. Also, Bono's shot-stopping abilities are highly praised by the manager, so the competition between both goalkeepers is strong but healthy. And the recordman, 100-times-a-Red Alex Bono, is happy with it.
