The USWNT was selected for the fourth consecutive year as the number one women's national soccer team in the world, according to FIFA's Women's World Ranking report.

The national soccer team, led by Vlatko Andonosky, reaffirmed its dominance in world soccer after a near-perfect 2021.

The team has become a steamroller and the numbers are solid and devastating.

Last year they won a bronze medal at the Tokyo 2020 Olympic Games by defeating the Australian team 4-3.

While this ended the Stars and Stripes' historic unbeaten streak of 44 matches, it did not take them out of first place in the FIFA rankings.

Moreover, the team can still boast a 62-match unbeaten home record, and the crowning glory, having clinched their title on the field at the 2019 FIFA Women's World Cup

The Andonosky-led players have been at the top of the FIFA rankings since 2017, and for this tally they overtook Sweden and Germany, who remain in second and third place, respectively.

They are followed by France in fourth place and the Netherlands, which moved into fifth place on the list, while Canada remained in sixth place.

Brazil ranked seventh, and the England women's national soccer team came in eighth place. The top 10 is rounded out by Spain and Korea. The former with the ninth position, while the latter, with the tenth position.

The USWNT's road to the top

The team has gone step by step in order to be at the top of the FIFA rankings again, and their achievements can be traced back to 2019.

That year, the team earned its ticket to participate in the FIFA Women's World Cup, which was played in France between June and July of that year.

This was the eighth edition of the competition and featured the participation of 24 national teams, including the Stars and Stripes.

The team began the competition with a 13-0 victory over Thailand, a match in which Alex Morgan, the team's star player, scored 5 goals.

They then defeated Chile 3-0, and finally consolidated their passage to the next round of the tournament with a 2-0 win over Sweden

In the round of 16 they defeated Spain 2-1 and in the quarterfinals they defeated host France 2-1, a match in which Megan Rapinoe scored both of her team's goals.

The team had to play the semifinal against England, which they defeated 2-1, and then played the final against the Netherlands.

In a very difficult final, in which there was a lot of physical confrontation, the USWNT won 2-1 and once again achieved the ultimate glory.

After confirming their role as the best in the world, the players had to face their next commitment, the Tokyo 2020 Olympic Games, held in 2021 due to the pandemic due to COVID-19.

And although the road to gold was more or less similar to the one they had in the World Cup, in the semi-final they met an old acquaintance: the Swedish soccer team, who snatched the opportunity to go for the gold medal.

However, they did not stay with their arms crossed and managed to win the bronze medal of the tournament, after defeating the Australian team 4-3.

But despite this result, the team has managed to remain at the top of the FIFA rankings and has no intention of moving from there.
