These past months, there was lots of speculation was to where Jose Mourinho would coach next. The Portuguese manager was sacked from his job at AS Roma earlier this year and openly said that he was desperate to coach a new team this summer heading into next season. Many fans predicted that he would reunite with his former player, Cristiano Ronaldo, and become the new head coach of Al Nassr for next season. He was heavily rumored to become a manager in Saudi Arabia, but instead, he went to Turkey to become the new manager of Fenerbahçe. Now that he has joined the Turkish giants, the ‘Special One’ wants to sign Real Madrid’s young star, Arda Guler. The young Turkish player joined Real Madrid from Fenerbahçe last summer. Mourinho was asked about potentially bringing back Guler but on a loan since he may struggle to get minutes at Real Madrid next season. Mourinho offered a great deal for the Turkish club and said, “If Arda Guler wants to come, why not? If he loves Fenerbahçe, if he comes for free and if Real Madrid pays 75% of his salary, we cannot say ‘No’.”
Mourinho was realistic about the move happening, but he still welcomes his arrival. The Portuguese manager said, “If Arda Guler wants to come to Fenerbahçe, he can come. But honestly, when you are at Real Madrid, a European champion, and you are young, I don’t think it would occur to you to come back.”
Mourinho saw Real Madrid win their 15th Champions League trophy at Wembley Stadium in person. Guler didn’t feature in the match, but Mourinho was impressed to see Real Madrid defeat Borussia Dortmund 2-0 in the final. The next day, Mourinho was presented as the new manager of Fenerbahçe, and many fans were present to see him.
Guler had a tough start at Real Madrid as he was recovering from a serious injury that kept him out for the first half of the season. When he was fully fit, he struggled to get minutes under Carlo Ancelotti. Towards the end of the season, Ancelotti started playing, and he impressed. He played 12 matches for Real Madrid and played 440 minutes. He still managed to score six goals, all coming in La Liga.
