Neymar showed himself several times playing poker tournaments in his role as an ambassador for a sponsoring company, but the statements he released in the last hours go one step further in that sense: he assured that he intends to become a professional player once he leaves football.
The Brazilian gave an interview to the French media CNews in which he specifically spoke about his link with poker and avoided the issue of his negotiation with Paris Saint Germain to extend his contract, beyond the fact that in the last hours the data of that the club intends to sign him until 2027 when he is already 35 years old.
Ney acknowledged that it's "true" that he wants to become a professional poker player when he leaves the courts and explained: "I feel very comfortable and I think that after playing football I will be able to do tournaments, travel to play tournaments in which I have always wanted participate and in which I could not do for my schedule and my career. So when I finish my football career, that's one of the things I'm going to do, travel to play these kinds of tournaments”.
The 29-year-old attacker explained that he started out as a poker player during the 2014 World Cup concentration that was held in his country: “Many teammates played and I ended up learning from them. I looked from the outside and then became interested in the game. I thought the way they played was great and I ended up falling in love".
During his days at Barcelona he shared many games with Gerard Piqué and currently in Paris his accomplices are Keylor Navas and Argentine Leandro Paredes: “It's a way to unite the group, to spend more time together. And also to learn the game, to find out who is the one who lies the most”. His fascination for this discipline reached such a point that he baptized his dog with the name poker.
