Thursday February 11, 2021 will not be one more day in Concacaf’s history. Neither for Liga MX, neither for Mexico. They are ahead of arguably, the most important soccer match in the continent history: the FIFA Club World Cup Final against European champions, Bayern Munich. For the first time, the confederation is represented in this stage.
Naturally, winning this would mean a new beginning in North America’s soccer. After beating Los Angeles FC in the Concacaf Champions League, Tigres travelled to Qatar and had their first hurdle against Asian champions, South Korea’s Ulsan Hyundai. Following that, they turned into underdogs facing South American kings, Palmeiras, from Brazil.
Now that the Verdao was beaten in the semifinals and they will play for the third-place match against Egypt’s Al-Ahly, who came as African champions, they will go for the glory. Bayern Münich is awaiting to win the eighth title in a row for UEFA, who last lost the title in 2012, when Brazil’s Corinthians defeated Chelsea.
Nobody can keep calm. Neither Tigres’ wing striker Javier Aquino. In the club’s official twitter account, he commented he has had lots of problems to sleep normally. He stated despite they might lose to the German giants, the Mexican club has already made history by becoming the first North American team to reach the final.
