Wales denounced racist attacks against two of their players after friendly vs Mexico

The South Wales police launched an investigation into the alleged "racist abuses" committed against two players of the Welsh national team after the friendly match played this Saturday against Mexico in Cardiff. Rabbi Matondo (Stoke City) and Ben Cabango (Swansea City), both in their 20s, received abusive messages on Instagram after Wales' victory over Mexico on Saturday.

The Football Association of Wales (FAW) reported in a statement that it is “disgusted” by the “racial abuse” suffered by its players: “Racism and all forms of discriminatory behavior are completely unacceptable and the FAW condemns it completely. The FAW is in dialogue with the South Wales police to ensure that this hateful behavior is reported and investigated”, the Welsh association denounced.

"The FAW joins other national clubs and associations in urging social media platforms and regulatory authorities to take stronger, more effective and more urgent action against this despicable behavior", he added.

Facebook, which owns Instagram, said it had "permanently" removed the accounts that sent the racist messages, and said it was also committed to "doing more." "We don't want racist abuse on Instagram and we have deleted the accounts that sent these messages to Ben Cabango and Rabbi Matondo this weekend", the social network reported in a statement.

This decision was made a few hours after Matondo publicly complained that the platform did nothing against xenophobic attacks.
